Suggestions for a Seamless Move:

When moving, many people will pack up their belongings themselves. While moving, families will likely be taking household items that are valuable, fragile, and breakable. In instances like these, when valuable possessions must be moved, packing your belongings the right way will help keep them safe.

Here are some helpful packing tips to ensure you’re packing your belongings in the best way possible.

  • Make sure to give yourself enough time to pack and prepare for the overall moving process. The more time you have, the less stressful the moving process will be. Taking inventory of what things will be moved is a great way of estimating how much time it would take to pack all the items being moved.
  • Prior to the packing process, you should sort out what items you’ll keep, the ones you’ll throw away, and which ones you will sell. Although time-consuming and sometimes tedious, moving is actually a good time to get rid of any clutter you may have, consequently making new room for your new things.
  • Make a plan on what items you will be packed together. We recommend packing items that you don’t use first. Additionally, you should pack items of equal weight together while being careful about avoiding the overload of boxes.
  • Always aim to use the right packing material. We suggest using packing tape because it is very strong and wide. Alternatively, we recommend not using masking tape as it is not strong enough to support the weight in the boxes.
  • Another great tip is to label the content on the exterior of the boxes, along with the rooms the boxes should be placed in at your new home. Furthermore, make sure you write fragile on all appropriate boxes, while also adding the arrows that indicate the upright position.
  • Essential items, such as utensils, toiletries, and clothes, should be marked in boxes with “open first” tags on the outside. You should pack these boxes in the moving vehicle last, as they will be boxes you’ll want to open first.

Moving Essentials

In general, there is a multitude of things to keep into account when moving. One thing you should not forget is preparing your important documents. You should keep your important documents, and perhaps an additional overnight bag, separate from all other items you are moving. Also, remember that you will need money, any required medication, and new and old keys, in addition to important documents such as your contracts and so on.

Another thing you’ll want to keep in mind is making sure that you have a good route. You could test run your route a few times prior to the actual moving day to make sure there aren’t any problems, such as construction or frequently heavy traffic. By doing so, you’ll have one less thing to worry about when moving day finally arrives. One aspect of moving that may be lost in the process is making sure you have enough energy to complete the process. With so much to do and so little time, it’s no surprise that you’ll find it easy to sacrifice your health by skipping meals. Don’t risk some preventable incident, and make sure you’re well-fed and hydrated on moving day.
